Meyer lemon, pear and iodine aromas offer striking clarity, turning smoky with air. Tightly wound citrus and orchard fruit flavors gain flesh and depth with aeration, picking up honey and sweet butter qualities. Impressively balanced, complex and spicy, with great finishing lift and thrust. I'd bet on this improving for at least the next five years. [ST]

Starting with complexing notes of roasted grains and showing a very deep and streamlined fruity note, the nose of this generous yet still developing youngster only partially prepares one for the stunning balance and depth of the wine on the palate. It has all the sweet, juicy fruit expected of the best of its appellation, and it backs it up with the richness of crème brulee and citrus blossom in flavors and aftertaste of amazing length. Withal, it is destined for better things some two years hence and seems likely to hold over twice that time and more. [Connoisseur's Guide to California Wine. 2 stars.]

Compared to the distinctly animale character of the Chambertin, here the nose is spicier and higher-toned but equally broad with a really lovely range of layered aromas that introduce equally rich if slightly more refined medium full-bodied flavors that display excellent detail on the driving, powerful and also gorgeously long finish that really stains the palate. While the personalities and styles are quite different, they are qualitative equals. A choice. [Burghound. 92-94 points.]

A discreet touch of wood sets off the earthy and distinctly gamy dark berry fruit aromas that complement the bigger, richer and more powerful flavors that possess more obvious volume yet despite the increase in size, there is no concession in terms of elegance or finesse as this is balanced and the supporting tannins are well-integrated on the long finish. A much more deeply pitched nose of spicy black and blue pinot fruit aromas sprinkled with earth and underbrush notes because while this is mostly Vosne in character, there is the slightly sauvage Nuits side that makes itself known, particularly on the full-bodied and firmly structured flavors that offer fine length and punch.
